SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS AND IDEAS
As designers we make choices constantly that impact not only the cost and outcomes of the jobs we work on but also on the environment in which we live. Thankfully when it comes to materials, we are at a stage in interior design as a field that we have come to know what materials are healthy, or can harm us and our world, and which materials will likely last versus those that are disposable. With all that knowledge, the choices we make are easier to chose the right materials creating healthy environments with less impact on our planet.
Consequently DMD strives to design using sustainable and responsible materials and methods of construction so as to push the field toward a greener outcome. We have been researching and utilizing available renewable wood products such as bamboo or domestically farmed woods, specifying non VOC producing substrates, printing graphics using green materials and dyes and applying paints and finishes that won’t diminish air quality. We also realize that the sustainable solution isn’t simply a material one and so David Milne has recently achieved his LEED AP certification to ensure that sustainable thinking and practices will be well integrated within the doors of DMD.
