PLAYSTATION 4 LAUNCH EVENT
When approached by one of Sonyβs marketing agencies weeks before the world launch of the new PlayStation 4 console with a near impossible request, DMD accepted the challenge and pulled off what many in the industry would say cannot be done in that short amount of time. The challenge; three mall spaces in three major cities across Canada needed to be surveyed, designed in 3D, drawn and detailed, manufactured and built-out in four weeks time for the PS4 preview event. Many potential vendors bowed out when they were told the timeline but DMD worked closely with numerous partners who stepped up to the plate to pull it together, including DNS Displays, Garrison Creek, True Cut Cabinetry, and Marvel Signs. The end result was an intriguing and interactive space for Sony Canada to preview and showcase its next generation of gaming system before it was even available in stores.
In addition to the tight timing, the spaces were on short-term leases and needed to be returned to their original condition after the event. This lead DMD to take a pop up retail style approach to the design and manufacturing where the use of modular wall sections and fixtures allowed for fast set-up and take down with minimal impact on the space.
